Some things can't be measured by output, performance, or quality. For Mike Axe, it isn't just about showing up day to day; it's about making a difference. Diagnosing the issue is only the beginning. The real challenge is finding a solution that will last. And for Mike, that means doing things the right way.
Leading by example, Mike's determination inspires all of us at Harlan and reminds us to stay humble as we strive to be our best.
Jack of All Trades
Throughout his many years with Harlan, Mike Axe has held a wide variety of positions. His expertise and can-do attitude have always been something the team can count on. From production operations to helping with technical details in purchasing and sales, Mike's extensive knowledge of tractors and all things mechanical has made him a steady and reliable presence.
Mike isn't just an expert when it comes to mechanical systems. He also brings strong knowledge in electrical systems, wiring, and programming. When Harlan was researching lithium usage in our tractors, engineers toiled for months without success. Eventually, they turned to Mike—and within an afternoon he had the tractor up and running. To this day, Mike programs all the computerized systems that are installed in Harlan GSE.
With so much experience and know-how, his dedicated touch is evident when one of our clients requires support in inspecting a fleet of Harlan tow tractors or training their in-house mechanics to service and repair our vehicles. When a technician needs help with a Harlan tractor, Mike is available to be on-call, diagnosing remotely and assisting to get equipment back into operation.
Truly, Mike remains an invaluable part of the team and is someone many of our customers consider a friend.
20 Years of Service
Before coming to Harlan, Mike Axe established himself through years of mechanical and electrical experience. Starting in the U.S. Airforce, Mike worked to build a strong baseline for mechanical systems and supply chain processes. After four years of developing his skills, he found himself ready to transition into civilian life.
Continuing on that path, Mike went on to work for Harley-Davidson for 18 years. He took on a variety of roles, starting in motorcycle assembly before moving into supply chain, and eventually settling into manufacturing and engineering. Mike came to Kansas City when the Harley-Davidson assembly plant opened in 1997. After some time and taking a step back for personal reasons, he reached a point where he wanted to be somewhere his knowledge and experience could truly make a difference.
In 2006, he learned about Harlan Global and applied. Within a few days Harlan CEO Jamie Kaplan personally reached out, recognizing the value Mike could bring. While touring the Harlan manufacturing plant, Mike saw a place where his experience could make an impact, a place he could help grow. Beginning as a materials manager, he quickly moved into a leadership role overseeing operations, helping to ramp up tractor production.
Today, Mike operates in R&D, helping bring our engineers' designs into reality and working alongside the team to ensure Harlan tractors are built to last and the designs hold up in real-world use. When not working on new or existing tractors, he can be found building electric axles, rebuilding transmissions, or working the burn table.
Committed to Quality Results
To Mike Axe, Harlan Global isn't just a job. It's more than simply "getting things done", and diagnosing the problem is just the tip of the iceberg. Work is often long and arduous, but Mike gets a real sense of satisfaction when he hears the engine or motor come to life again.
Knowing that the repair is built to last makes him feel that things have been done the right way. This kind of care and pride for Harlan tugs motivates others to take a similar mindset, putting their best foot forward each day.
